"Small Wonders" 2011

To-night is our Opening Reception for the annual Christmas show at the Fort Gallery - we hung it last Monday (see above) and let me tell you: it looks fantastic!! The gallery is full of smallish and affordable works of art by all the members of the collective, hung salon-style, so that the purchaser can take the piece with them at once. A new work will then be hung in the empty space as long as we have enough works. So the show will be constantly changing, but it will be worth a visit at any time.

Gallery hours: Wednesday till Sunday 12noon - 5pm, Monday and Tuesday: closed.

See www.fortgallery.ca for further info.

The show "PaintScapes and GlassShapes II" at the Fort Gallery was a great success with a good turn-out of visitors and a few sales: I sold three of my newest paintings, Judy sold one glass piece! Plus quite a few art cards. And we both had a lot of good feed-back, not least about how well our work looked together and how well the way it was hung worked. So we will definitely team up again in a year's time.

A few days after taking down above show I was invited to show my work at the Water Shed Arts Cafe' (at #11 - 20349 88th Ave in Walnut Grove, Phone: 604 882-0651) and we hung that show yesterday. It includes most of the work from the Fort Gallery except the ones that sold, plus "Tapestry 5" that was accepted into the Fraser Valley Biennale 2011 and was shown there over the summer.

The Fort Gallery's annual fundraiser - The Blue Plate Special - will take place on October 14, 2011, from 7:00 - 12:00am and it is really an exciting event: great food, live music, lots of paintings (donated by the gallery's artists) for the draw and artists willing to talk about art and answer your questions. There is also doorprizes and a silent auction!

It takes place in Fort Langley Community Hall on Glover Road and tickets are still available: a $200.00 ticket will give you a piece of art worth much more than the ticketprice while a $30.00 ticket will give you a delightful evening with access to the Silent Auction which this year also contains non-art objects and to the doorprizes, food etc.

The FORT GALLERY hosts this exciting yearly event on Sunday, August 7, 2011. Come and enjoy learning as well as making new friends - it will be a full day that includes yoga, several workshops and demos to chose from as well as lifedrawing in a relaxed atmosphere of friendship and creativity among horses, farm buildings, ponds and fields on a beautiful farm in South Langley. Adults of all skill levels are welcome. I will be teaching a workshop in abstract acrylic exploration.

All the members of The Fort Gallery Collective are working very hard to make our main fundraising event, "The Blue Plate Special" on November 12 - 2010, a great success again this year. It truly is a wonderful evening of music, art, fun, and good food in The Fort Langley Community Centre - a lovely heritage building on Glover Road. The artists have all donated their work and will be in attendance.

Check out www.fortgallery.ca for further details and to see most of the works up for grabs.

Come to Fort Langley between June 30 and July 18, 2010. Explore this delightful little town, have lunch and walk into The Fort Gallery where I will have a show of new abstract work based on the different seasons of a small nearby wooded area - and even if the working process is totally abstract, the landscape is at its base and does come through in some works more than others. Sharing the gallery with me will be another member artist, Judy Jones, who works with fused glass. The gallery is open from 12:00 noon till 5:00 pm from Wednesday through Sunday. Hope to see you there.
