Well, we made it through 2017 - and personally I can only say that I was glad to see the end of a year that was full of unrest, violence and disastrous events worldwide (not to mention You Know Who south of the border), as well as difficult for me in many ways. And I fervently hope that 2018 will be a better, more positive year - and I have made a request to whoever is in charge of these things to make it so! We have however been fortunate to avoid the deep freeze, snow and ice that have been troubling most of North America here in the very southwestern corner of BC, also called Canada's Banana Belt. We have seen the sun more than we usually do and although it feels chilly and damp, it is nothing compared to what other people have had to contend with.
The painting above is bran new and was just finished today with only a few minor adjustment to come when I have looked at it for a bit --- and I am itching to add a little red in a few spots but need time to carefully consider how much and where.
It is quite large at 36 x 36" and was started as one of a possible diptych as seen below:
This is the very first stage with loose blocking in of colours to try and find a composition to start with; and also an attempt to find a set-up that will make it possible for me to paint large works again - it is a total of 36" x 72". The two sides may not stay together, we'll see when I get started on the right side in a little while; it has been a very focused two weeks of work and a rest is needed. But I am very encouraged by how it is going and it appears that by changing my working habits and trying out many different ways as well as getting a few new pieces of equipment, I shan't be confined to mainly small canvasses in the future - Hurrah!!!
So things are definitely looking better and I'm much relieved!
So here's to wishing everyone a great and peaceful 2018 with lots of good things in store for all!
