So this is how the last canvas ended up - and it has survived my wall test with flying colours (!) which is great!
I now have two new canvasses in the studio and will gesso them for the last time to-morrow - and then look at them and start to get a feel for what they may require. I call this the "getting to know you phase" and it is crucial; it can go on for days or even a week or two while I also wait for the right time to start - time without other pressing concerns or interruptions. I have by now realized that it pays to wait until I'm just bursting to get started, and when that happens - usually the painting will have a really good foundation and will be much more likely to work out well.
I hope to get started on Friday or Saturday - it is supposed to rain then in the morning and that is the best time to start, when I'm still fresh with energy to spare; the dogs won't like it but will just have to put up with it - they will get their walk later in the day even if they do prefer their morning outings! To-morrow should be another nice day so we will go up to the park in the morning
