Another sunny day with a hint of approaching spring and a lovely walk along the dyke, what more can one wish for in February? And even though I know that winter is far from over with more cold and wet days in store - it still lifts the spirit as does the fact, that the days are now getting noticeably longer and brighter. Above are a couple of shots from the estuary that is occupying my thoughts at the moment and that is serving as inspiration for my current paintings - the last one as well as the one I have just started working on.
The new work in progress is a fairly large canvas (36" x 48") and it has already required considerable time and effort - with little to show for it so far - but I will soldier on and hopefully have a few shots to post in a few days as it does have some potential.
So here it is - my newest painting - all finished, and in this case I know that nothing will need to be changed later on, it is complete! I call it "Estuary" because it is based on impressions and observations during my walks along the dykes in the wildlife conservation areas that serve as resting and feeding stops during the bird migrations. These areas are my personal refueling places as well: the quiet, the gentle colours, the light especially, and the feeling of wide open spaces never stop to give me a feeling of peace and wonder, and I consider myself very lucky to live so close to such natural richness - and that it has been protected and will be preserved.
I am hoping that this painting will be the start of a new series along the same lines and that it will continue to grow and develop as I go along - but first a breather in between while I try to mull over the "how to do" the next one. The canvas is ready though it still needs another coat of gesso - which is all part of getting to know it - and slowly ideas will start to take form (I hope).
These are two further stages of the painting that I'm currently working on and that I talked about in my last post - it is now getting close to being finished; but not quite yet. I had to put it on hold for a bit to deal with other things: namely preparing my last two paintings to go to a gallery and this included doing more work on them as well as fixing the edges, signing and wiring - which I hate doing - and putting together a portfolio of recent work and other info for the new gallery to show to clients. This is now complete and I will post details shortly.
